Where a drain sits below the sewer, or the run is too long and flat to fall naturally, waste has to be pumped. We install packaged foul and surface water pumping stations with twin pumps, high-level alarms and correctly sized rising mains, for basements, low-lying extensions, barn conversions and small developments across the East Midlands.
When drainage has to be pumped
Gravity is always the first choice, but it is not always available. Basement conversions, annexes and extensions built below the level of the sewer, plots on low ground, and long flat runs where the fall would be lost all need a pumped solution.
The same applies to surface water on sites where the outfall is higher than the area being drained.

How we specify a station
The pump has to move the flow against the height it is lifting and the friction in the rising main, so chamber size, pump duty and pipe diameter are worked out together. Oversized pipework lets solids settle; undersized pipework overworks the pump.
Foul stations are specified with two pumps working alternately, so the system keeps running if one fails, and with enough storage to cope while a fault is attended to. A high-level alarm tells you there is a problem before anything backs up, and a non-return valve stops the rising main draining back into the chamber.
Adoption and ongoing care
A station serving more than one property may need to be built to adoptable standards if it is to be taken over by the water company, which affects the design, the materials and the paperwork from the outset. Where a station stays private, the owners are responsible for it — so we set out what servicing it needs and what the alarm means.
