Drainage In Wilford: What We Know
Wilford sits on a meander of the River Trent. During Storm Henk on 4 January 2024, with the Trent close to record levels, gardens, cellars and outhouses on Roland Avenue flooded, Nottingham City Council's investigation found.
The council found that many of the area's surface-water sewers empty into the Trent, and when the river is high their outfalls can be submerged, so the network can't drain and looks "blocked". If water backed up while the river was high, a CCTV survey once levels fall will show whether silt or damage was left behind.
Wilford became part of the city in 1952 as a link to the new Clifton estate, but land east of the old Great Central Railway stayed in the county. Neighbouring Compton Acres (NG2), built in 1986 on the eastern edge of Wilford, is in Rushcliffe, while Wilford village and Silverdale, built in the late 1950s, are in Nottingham City.
