Farnsfield had about 250 houses in the 1930s and around 1,000 by the 1990s, after council and private estates were built on the edge of the village. Another 88 homes followed on Cockett Lane from 2014, according to the Farnsfield Neighbourhood Plan. A beck runs through the village south of Beck Lane, and some southern parts of Farnsfield are in Flood Zone 3, the neighbourhood plan notes. In neighbouring Edingley, Storm Babet flooded 17 homes in October 2023 when run-off overwhelmed ditches and road gullies, Nottinghamshire County Council found.
