Storm Babet flooded 23 homes in Bilsthorpe on 20 October 2023. According to Nottinghamshire County Council, 21 were on Mickledale Lane and Mickledale Close, where Rainworth Water burst its banks, and two were on Kirklington Road, where the road drains were overwhelmed and water pooled at a low spot.
The Stanton Ironworks Company began sinking Bilsthorpe Colliery in 1925, and the first colliery housing was laid out along Eakring Road towards The Crescent. More homes were built from the 1950s, including prefabricated Cornish Type 1 houses. The colliery closed in 1997, so a coal mining check is worth doing before major groundworks, and the older clay drains are prone to root ingress.
