When Storm Dennis hit on 16 February 2020, 12 homes on Hickling Way, Fosse Walk, Marlwood and Owthorpe Road flooded inside, according to Nottinghamshire County Council. Water from saturated fields ran down the slopes behind the houses, in through the back and out into the road drains at the front.
Cotgrave Colliery opened in the early 1960s and closed in 1993, and a large purpose-built estate for the miners took the village from about 700 people to over 5,000.
