Drainage In Bestwood Park: What We Know
Bestwood Park is a large post-war council estate in the north of the city, roughly bounded by Beckhampton Road, Oxclose Lane and Queens Bower Road; building began in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It's separate from the older Bestwood Estate to the west, and from Bestwood Village and Bestwood Country Park.
The Greater Nottingham water cycle study (2010) recorded known sewer flooding issues in the city's Bestwood ward, which today includes the estate. When a public sewer is overloaded, water can back up into the private drains that feed it, so a drain that fills in a downpour isn't always blocked on your side.
On 23 July 2013 an intense storm flooded 11 homes on Daron Gardens and Edern Gardens in neighbouring Top Valley. Nottingham City Council found the flooded homes sit low in a natural valley that runs from the playing fields on Beckhampton Road down to Southglade Park.
