During Storm Babet in October 2023, 25 properties flooded, including nine on Dawn View and seven on Cranbourne Close; residents reported the Boundary Brook overtopping Trowell Road, which crosses it on a culvert, Nottinghamshire County Council's investigations record.
Most of the village lies between the River Erewash and the Nottingham Canal. The county council is scoping a natural flood management scheme for Trowell, though funding has not yet been secured.
Trowell sits on the Coal Measures, and coal was dug nearby from the 13th century until 1928, so a coal mining check is worth doing before new drainage or groundworks.
